How to Apply
EPSRC DLA funding is allocated directly to departments to support students, please refer to the individual websites below for details on how to apply as each department may have different timelines and requirements. Studentships will provide a stipend at the minimum UKRI rate, fees at the University home rate and funding to support research costs, training and travel.
Potential applicants, who must normally meet the University's minimum requirements for postgraduate studies, should please review the information provided on the relevant Departmental websites (see below) on how to apply, as well as the general guidance on the application process, including funding, which can be found on the Postgraduate Admissions website.
For international students, departments have access to fee bursaries which can be used to support those they wish to appoint: this will provide the fee difference between the home and overseas rate for up to 30% of the overall DLA cohort.
As DLA awards are limited, applicants are encouraged to apply for all funding they are eligible for by the deadline indicated by departments.
Fair Access and Widening Participation
The University is actively addressing identified under-representation of particular groups within postgraduate study. This includes Black British, British Bangladeshi, and British Pakistani, as well as all ethnicities from low-income backgrounds.
Mature students, those with caring responsibilities, first-generation students (parents or immediate care-givers did not go to university) and students who have experienced being in care, as well as women in the Schools of Technology and Physical Sciences, are also identified as currently being under-represented.
Students from all of these under-represented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.
