Industrial Doctoral Landscape Award (IDLA)
IDLA (formerly ICASE) allows businesses and related organisations to arrange PhD projects with Universities. The scheme would be of particular interest to prospective PhD students who wish to gain experience in industry or policy.
IDLA students are fully-registered Cambridge PhD students, with access to all the training, development and support opportunities available in their Department, their School, and across the wider University.
In addition, each IDLA student has an industrial supervisor at the co-sponsor organisation, who works closely with their University PhD supervisor. As a minimum requirement, each IDLA student must undertake a fully-funded 3-month placement with the industrial partner, allowing the student to gain real-world commercial experience as part of their studies. However, industrial partners often also provide additional benefits, which vary according to the project - these could include an allowance to attend conferences, access to specialist equipment, etc.
