CDT courses in Cambridge

EPSRC Centres for Doctoral Training

CDTs in Cambridge offer a four-year doctoral training programme beginning with a year of intensive teaching and project work, leading to an examination for a masters degree (MPhil or MRes) at the end of the first year.

Subject to satisfactory progress during the first year and a good result in the masters examination (as defined by the course applied for), students progress to a PhD in one of the departments participating in the CDT.

In November 2013, the University was successful in securing EPSRC funding for eight Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs), including the renewal of three that were already running, and is a partner in other successful bids by other universities. An additional award was made in March 2014. The first cohorts of students started in October 2014.

 In CDTs with multiple University partners:

  • some teaching will be provided by/at other institutions
  • registration for a first-year masters degree may not be in Cambridge
  • a few PhD studentships will be available in Cambridge as well as at the other partners - please enquire through the lead institution.
