EPSRC Doctoral Training Opportunities

We invite applications for two prestigious EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowships, starting at any point during the 2024/25 academic year (1 October 2024 to 30 September 2025).

Fellowships provide the ideal opportunity for EPSRC funded PhD students to further their careers as independent researchers, allowing bespoke projects to be developed that are within the EPSRC remit. As part of the Fellowship, you will have the support of a dedicated supervisor, in addition to an independent mentor. You are also encouraged to undertake training and outreach activities during the Fellowship, for which funding will be available.

Applicants should propose a project that constitutes a new and discrete body of work that increases the impact of your PhD studies. Continuation of specific work from your PhD may also be permitted, as long as it will also be a new and discrete body of work.

Prior to applying, early discussions regarding the planned research proposal should be held with a University of Cambridge academic member of staff, who is willing to act as the Fellowship Supervisor. They must also be willing to support and host the project within their department.

The positions are available as a one-year fixed term post, with the possibility of extending to two years depending on the availability of other internal funding (this should be discussed with the Fellowship Supervisor). Appointments will be made at Research Associate Grade 7, spine point 41 (current rate £36,024).

We welcome applications from all eligible candidates. EPSRC funded PhD students from other institutions are encouraged to apply.

As these positions are available to those PhD students who have not yet had the opportunity to develop their skills outside PhD study, those who currently hold a research or academic-related position with a contract of 12 months or more will be considered to have achieved the aims of this programme and as such will not be eligible.
